It's true that our "writing voice" is how we "sound" in our writing, or the persona your reader detects as they read your words. But it's also more than that. My new understanding is all thanks to the newest book by Anne Janzer, called The Writer's Voice. In the introduction to her book, Anne asks us to consider whether our writing voice lives in the words on the page. Or is it part of our personality as a writer? Or is it a bag of stylistic tricks? Or, even more intriguing to me, is what role the reader plays in determining our voice.
